Use unleaded gasoline
Hyundai must use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 (research method). The use of leaded gasoline will cause catalytic converter failure and emission control systems to malfunction.
In addition, this will increase the cost of car maintenance. To prevent accidental refueling with leaded gasoline, the fuel filler neck of the Hyundai car has a reduced diameter into which it is impossible to insert a filling nozzle used for leaded gasoline.
Note:
- Hyundai vehicles sold in certain countries can be run on leaded gasoline. If you intend to use leaded gasoline, check with your Hyundai dealer about the availability of this type of fuel in your vehicle.
- Leaded gasoline must have the same octane rating as unleaded gasoline.
Diesel fuel
If both types of fuel are available, use respectively summer or winter fuel at the following outside temperature:
- Above -5°C: summer diesel
- Below -5°C: winter diesel. Carefully monitor the level of fuel in the tank: in the event of an engine stop when the fuel is completely depleted, it will be necessary to remove air from the entire fuel system to start the engine.
Attention: Do not allow gasoline and water to enter the fuel tank. In this case, it will be necessary to drain the fuel tank and purge the lines to prevent the high pressure fuel pump from jamming and causing engine damage.
Can benzene be used?
Your Hyundai engine can run on gasohol (mixtures of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or ethyl alcohol). However, if this causes a deterioration in vehicle performance, it is recommended to use pure unleaded gasoline. Do not use fuel with other alcohol content or fuel containing alcohol other than ethanol.
Don't use methanol
Use fuel containing methanol on your Hyundai (wood alcohol) prohibited, as this will lead to a decrease in engine performance and damage to the elements of the power system.
Caution: Damage to the engine power system or reduction in engine performance caused by the use of methanol or methanol-containing fuel may void the Hyundai New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Eco-friendly gasoline grades
To reduce air pollution, Hyundai recommends the use of gasolines with detergent additives that prevent deposits in the engine. This will reduce the amount of harmful emissions and improve the performance of the emission control system.
Vehicle operation in foreign countries
If you intend to use your Hyundai in another country:
- Complete all required vehicle registration and insurance procedures.
- Make sure you have the right quality fuel in that country.
