Note: The figure shows a 1.6L engine starter. For models with 1.4 liter engines, the starter arrangement may vary slightly.
Disassembly
1. Loosen the nut and disconnect the wire (1) from terminal «M» traction relay (2).
2. Remove 2 screws (3) and remove the traction relay (4).
3. Unscrew the two screws of the brush holder (5) and two through bolts (6).
4. Remove the back cover (7) and brush holder (8).
5. Remove the case with the excitation winding (9) and anchor (10).
6. Remove the fork plate (11) and sealant (12).
7. Remove the plug (13) with gear (14).
8. With mandrel (15) remove the retaining ring (16).
9. Using tongs (17) remove the retaining ring (18).
10. Remove the thrust ring (19), retaining ring (20), drive gear (21) from the shaft (22).
Assembly
11. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.
Retaining ring installation note:
After installing the drive gear using a suitable puller (23) tighten the retaining ring (24) over the retaining ring (25).
