Towing a car with the driving wheels raised above the ground
As a general rule, vehicles should be towed with the drive wheels off the ground. If the vehicle cannot be towed with the drive wheels raised due to significant damage to the vehicle or other circumstances, use a dolly.
Towing a car with a manual transmission
If the vehicle is towed with the front wheels raised, make sure the parking brake is released.
If the vehicle is towed with the rear wheels up, make sure the transmission is in neutral. Also, make sure the ignition key is in the "ACC" ("Optional equipment"). This is to prevent damage to the steering lock mechanism, which is not designed to hold the front wheels in a straight line while the vehicle is being towed.
If any of the parts of the loaded wheels or suspension are damaged, a towing dolly must be used.
Towing a car with an automatic transmission
It is forbidden to tow a car with an automatic transmission, the back of the car forward with the rear wheels up
Warning! Do not tow a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission with the rear of the vehicle forward with the rear wheels raised. This can seriously damage the gearbox. If it is necessary to tow the vehicle with the rear of the vehicle forward, the front wheels must be on the towing dolly.
If the vehicle is towed with the rear wheels raised, make sure the parking brake is released.
If the vehicle is towed with all wheels on the road, it can only be towed with the front of the vehicle forward. Make sure the gearbox is in neutral. The towing speed must not exceed 50 km/h and the towing distance must not exceed 25 km.
Make sure the steering wheel is unlocked, turn the ignition key to the "ACC" ("Optional equipment"). When towing, the driver must be in the vehicle to control it.
